For a completely non-life-threatening condition, dandruff can be a real nightmare to try and get rid of. This is especially true if you’re trying to get rid of dandruff the “old-fashioned way” – washing your hair extra often, using special chemicals and shampoos, and maybe even taking a couple of medicines to try and clear up this “snowy condition”.
Well, if you’ve been down that road before, the odds are pretty good that you’ve realized there aren’t too terribly many things out there that can get rid of dandruff that come over-the-counter. You’re usually faced with having to get your hands on prescription grade chemical concoctions (with who knows what kind of side effects) or going the all-natural route.
If you aren’t interested in putting your short-term (more long term) health in jeopardy with those chemical cocktails, hopefully you pay attention to the inside information we have for you below about figuring out how to get rid of dandruff naturally.
Let’s dive right in!
What exactly is dandruff, anyway?
Before we get to the real meat and potatoes of helping you figure out how to get rid of dandruff naturally, it’s important that you understand exactly what dandruff is (and what it isn’t).
A lot of people are under the false impression that dandruff is simply dry skin on your scalp – nothing could be further from the truth.
Dandruff is a scalp disorder. It can be caused by dry skin, extra oily skin, a bacterial growth or fungus on the scale, or even a number of other inflammatory skin issues.
That’s what makes it so difficult to tackle.
Caused by an overreaction of your sebaceous gland (located just beneath your skin on your scalp), you need to calm down that gland with natural approaches or you’re going to find yourself up to your ears in dandruff!
How do people usually deal with dandruff?
Most people take one of three different approaches when they are trying to get rid of dandruff.
They start to almost over clean their hair, really scrubbing their scalps with all kinds of shampoos and conditioners, taking two or even three showers a day hoping that they’ll be able to “moisturize” their scalp, clear up all of that dry skin, and finally banish dandruff from their life forever. This rarely works.
The second approach that a lot of people try out is getting their hands on a prescription grade dandruff shampoo or internal medicines, medicine specifically designed to kill dandruff and shut down the overproduction of the sebaceous gland we talked above.
This usually works pretty well (for a time), but you almost always have to get off of those medicines – and your dandruff comes roaring right back – or it causes a world of headache and hassle through all kinds of different side effects you couldn’t have anticipated.
Finally, a lot of people trying to figure out how to get rid of dandruff naturally.
Sometimes this means taking advantage of all natural oils, herbs, and other vitamins and minerals – sometimes in supplement form and other times applied topically to your scalp when you shower but these results are kind of hit or miss.
But that’s where the most effective all-natural approach to getting rid of dandruff comes into play.
What are the best dandruff destroying foods out there?
There are all kinds of foods out there that are going to help you fight dandruff from the inside out, but there are really four or five that will boost your immune system and skin health across the board – and they are (usually) really tasty to boot!
Adding any of these foods to your daily intake (in pretty small amounts) can have an almost transformative impact on your day to day life, your self-confidence, and your happiness when you realize that you are completely dandruff free.
Here are just a few that you are going to want to focus on!
Chickpeas
Loaded with vitamin B6 and zinc, chickpeas fight dandruff from the inside out as well as topically if they are applied to your scalp.
Ginger
One of Mother Nature’s miracle products, Ginger is fantastic for overall health and well-being, but when eaten on a regular basis, it floods the body with antibacterial and antifungal properties to fight dandruff.
Garlic
Most people know that eating garlic on a regular basis is fantastic for overall health, but a lot of people are surprised that it can be used as a topical solution to get rid of dandruff.
Sunflower seeds
A lot of people are (understandably) pretty surprised to learn that sunflower seeds are effective at helping people get rid of dandruff naturally, but because they are loaded with vitamin B6 and zinc (just like chickpeas) they work wonders.
Is this really going to work?
At the end of the day, figuring out how to get rid of dandruff naturally through diet (especially when your approach is by making minor changes to your diet) really isn’t all that difficult.
All you really have to do to is figure out how to shift and change some of the foods you eat on a regular basis, tightening up your diet, and almost “overloading” your body with specific foods that fight this skin condition and disorder.
But you do have to use a little bit of discipline to make these additions, focus on eating them (or applying them topically) regularly, and sticking to the plan. If you don’t, there’s a pretty substantial chance that your dandruff will come right back.
So, what do you think?
Are you ready to try out these all-natural tips and tricks to get rid of dandruff forever?
Let us hear about it below!
Is it possible hair products could give one dandruff? I never use to have dandruff but now its so severe after using a particular hair relaxer.I stopped buh d dandruff has left since instead its getting worse by the day.
Hi John, yes it`s possible. Sensitivity to hair care products is called contact dermatitis. Sometimes sensitivities to certain ingredients in hair care products or hair dyes, especially paraphenylenediamine, can cause a red, itchy, scaly scalp. Shampooing too often or using too many styling products also may irritate your scalp, causing dandruff.
