One of the most annoying and disgusting things that could happen to you is having a chewing gum stick to your hair. This usually occurs with little girls who have long hair or little children who like playing with their food. It is heart-breaking to know that some parents just give up on removing the gum and instead will go for the scissors to cut out the affected area of their child’s hair. Fortunately, there is no need for you to panic if you or someone that you know had a chewing gum stick to your hair. There are many smart, resourceful, and innovative ways on how to get gum out of hair. Just follow these simple guidelines and choose which method you think will be the most efficient, effective, and convenient to you.
Peanut butter
An effective method on how to get gum out of hair is to buy or get some peanut butter. Choose a peanut butter that is smooth and with lots of oil. When it comes to using peanut butter for removing a stuck chewing gum on your hair: the more oil, the better. Choose a peanut butter with 80 grams of fat per 100 grams of peanut butter. Do not buy or get peanut butter that is classified as crunchy. That kind of peanut butter has less oil than the smooth peanut butter.
If you already have smooth peanut butter, the next step is to get a toothbrush. If you do not have a spare toothbrush, you can also get a comb. You will use the toothbrush or the comb by applying the smooth and oily peanut butter on it. Once you have applied some oily peanut butter on your toothbrush or your comb, you can now start to apply the peanut butter to the affected hair area or the part of your hair that has a chewing gum stuck on it. Use the toothbrush or your comb to apply the peanut butter on the affected area of the hair. To apply the peanut butter on your hair, you need to apply your toothbrush or your comb in a downward and then outward motion on the affected area.
The idea behind this method is to dissolve the chewing gum stuck on your hair with the oil that comes from the peanut butter. Use as much peanut butter as needed depending on how large the chewing gum on the hair is. You can also use a spoon as a firm base to make it easier for you to work the peanut butter on your hair.
Once done, get a dry towel to pull the peanut butter and the dissolved chewing gum will be pulled with it as well. After that, wash and rinse your hair thoroughly with the use of shampoo. Discard the toothbrush and clean the towel throughly after use.
If you have no access to peanut butter, there are other items you can use as a substitute for peanut butter. The other items you can use to substitute with smooth and oily peanut butter are cooking oil, toothpaste, Vaseline, and WD-40. You can use any of those products to remove the chewing gum off your hair.
Hair silicone drops
Another method on how to get gum out of hair is to buy or get hair silicone drops. You need to apply it generously on the affected area of your hair where chewing gum has been stuck. After applying the hair silicone drops on the affected part of your hair, you have to wait for about a minute before you gently comb the chewing gum out of your hair. After removing the chewing gum from your hair with the use of hair silicone drops, do not forget to wash your hair with shampoo and rinse it thoroughly afterwards.
Ice cubes and salt water
The next method on how to get gum out of hair is by using ice cubes and salt water. So before trying this method out, make sure you have frozen enough ice cubes for this procedure. You must also prepare a pail of water and mix it with salt. When the necessary items have already been prepared, the next step is to soak the part of your hair that has a chewing gum stuck on it. The rationale for soaking the hair with chewing gum on salt water is to lower the temperature of the area of your hair that has a chewing gum stuck on it. Once you are finished with soaking the affected area of your hair on salt water, the next step to do is to get the ice cubes and start applying or rubbing the ice cube on the chewing gum on your hair. You need to continue rubbing ice cubes with the chewing gum for about fifteen minutes. The goal in applying ice cubes on the chewing gum is to ice or harden the chewing gum by lowering its temperature. The iced or hardened chewing gum will be much easier to remove from your hair after the procedure.
Whatever method you will choose on how to get gum out of hair, the important thing to always remember in removing the chewing gum off your hair is that your ultimate goal is to not give up by using scissors and just cutting off the part of your hair that has a chewing gum stuck on it.

All you need to do is to follow the instructions and be resourceful with the items and products that you have in your environment. You also need to always remember and remind others especially children to avoid playing with chewing gum and to discard it in the trash once it loses its flavor and texture so that everybody can avoid getting into these sticky situations.
